The Gray Wolf was once hunted and poisoned to near extinction and is now rare in the United States. In 1995 wolves were re-introduced into Yellowstone National Park and are doing quite well there. Wolf packs usually number 6 to 8 animals but can have as many as 15. Wolves cover huge territories and prey upon large mammals such as elk, moose, and caribou.
